The Library of Things: borrow more than just books!

We are excited to launch the Library of Things, a unique collection of non-book items available for borrowing.

The Library of Things provides members with a range of tech, practical and recreational non-book items available to borrow from your library – for free! Not a member? It's free and easy to join

The collection aims to provide items for those who may have a financial barrier to accessing items or only need them for one-time use.

Whether it’s a digital film scanner to preserve old family photos or a thermal imaging camera for a one-off home energy audit, you can access products that are otherwise unaffordable to many.

By encouraging the shared use of resources, you can borrow what you need when you need it - reducing waste and promoting sustainability.

Some items are already generating interest and there are waitlists for some items. But we encourage you to get in the queue and your time will come around – it’s worth the wait!

Items in the Library of Things include:
Mobile podcasting kit: record a podcast directly to your phone with this complete podcasting setup.
Digital film scanners: across 3 different models; scan, view, edit, convert and save old 35mm, 135, 126, 110, super8, slides, and monochrome negatives into clear digital images.
Air quality detector: detect carbon monoxide in your home.
Portable projector: plug & play projector.
Home energy efficiency kit: used to measure power consumption and greenhouse gas emission in your home.
Thermal imaging cameras: used to detect heat loss, poor insulation and water leaks in your home perfect for energy audits
C-PEN reader: reads text out loud to assist with reading for those who are vision impaired or learning to read.
Bird watching kit: includes binoculars, a bird identification guide, and accessories.

If you’re not comfortable using this tech, we’ve got friendly expert staff to help you - chat to the team at your local library today.
